EKKC on the BBC: Talking Kitesurfing, Community & East Kent

We recently had the opportunity to head into the BBC studio to talk about kitesurfing in East Kent, what makes the area such a great place for the sport, and how the local community around it continues to grow.

The interview covered everything from what kitesurfing actually is, to why East Kent’s coastline offers such unique conditions, and how groups like EKKC help bring people together around a shared love of the sea, wind, and being outdoors.

You can watch the full interview below, originally aired on BBC Radio Kent, where we discuss kitesurfing, local conditions, and the wider East Kent kitesurfing scene.

Why Kitesurfing Works So Well in East Kent

East Kent is lucky to have a wide range of accessible beaches, open water, and reliable wind conditions. During the interview, we spoke about how this makes the area ideal not just for experienced riders, but also for people who are completely new to the sport.

One of the key messages was that kitesurfing doesn’t have to be extreme or intimidating, it’s a sport you can enjoy at your own pace, whether that’s cruising on flat water or gradually progressing over time.

Community Over Competition

A big part of the conversation focused on community. EKKC exists to connect local kiters, share knowledge, encourage safe practices, and create opportunities for people to get involved, both on and off the water.

We also touched on how community-led groups help make the sport more approachable, especially for people who may not know where to start or who are new to the area.

What’s Next

Media opportunities like this help shine a light on kitesurfing in East Kent and the people behind the scenes who make the community what it is. As EKKC continues to grow through 2026, we’re looking forward to more conversations, events, and ways to get people involved.
